Acorn author Jeff Pollak’s idea of writing a novel was meant as a self-induced challenge, nothing more. He merely wanted to see if he could write stories as a hobby once he retired from his career as a trial lawyer. Instead, the unexpected happened, publishing took place and a second career began.

Despite never writing fiction before, his debut novel - First Second Coming, a suspenseful romantic fantasy – received an award for writing excellence and creativity and is being adapted into a TV series!

So what’s the story about? In 2027, Earth’s new god sits down for his introductory interview with L.A. talk show hosts Ram Forrester and Brendali Santamaria. He offers earthlings a chance to redeem themselves. Mankind is given 60 days to prove that humans can enact a permanent non-violent process to resolve religious disputes. Failure ends human life. As days pass and the spectre of catastrophe looms, Ram and Bren must avoid death from zealots who consider this god a fraud, and get this god the proof he demands so the love blooming between them isn’t prematurely ended.

Jeff’s final word for authors-to-be: when he was learning the ropes he read, among many things, Stephen King’s book On Writing. There Jeff came across this nugget and applied it to his writing: “Find a subject you care about and which you in your heart feel others should care about. It is this genuine caring, not your games with language, which will be the most compelling and seductive element in your style.” Keep that in mind when you write, it helps.
