As a little girl, Lisa Crawford Watson was certain of two things: water was dangerous, and her twin sister was the brave one. A terrifying swimming lesson and her sister’s near-drowning incident left Lisa convinced she would never feel safe in the water.

Yet the very place she feared most became the setting for some of her greatest personal triumphs.

Over the years, Lisa transformed from an anxious child standing at the pool’s edge into a devoted swimmer who discovered that the true rewards of the sport had little to do with medals or competition. Through early-morning laps, life’s setbacks, family challenges, loss, and self-doubt, she found resilience, purpose, and an unexpected sense of home.

Then she did something even more surprising: she invited swimmers out of the water.
