Going the Distance: Strategies from the First Stride to the Finish Line

Paul Greer's storied running career began at St. Augustine High School. After being inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 1995, he went on to become the the 1,500 meter record holder at San Diego State University, where his 3:42.44, still stands as the best mark in school history.


Since then Paul has coached thousands of athletes in endurance sports, including track athletes, marathon runners, Ironman triathletes, various endurance sport enthusiasts. His students include hundreds of Boston qualifiers, several top age-group competitors, and a handful of Olympic qualifiers.


In addition to his 40 years as a coach, Paul is a professor in Health and Exercise Science at San Diego City College, Director for the "Rockin' N Runnin" full and half marathon training program, and a staple of the San Diego running community. Paul has been selected to serve as the Coach/Team Leader for two International Cross Country Running teams for the United States. In 2016, Paul was the Men's Coach for Team USA's Senior and Junior teams at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country Championships. Paul was selected again to be the Men's Coach for Team USA's Junior team at the 2024 World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade Serbia. 


His debut book, Going the Distance, is the expression of his sincere passion to improve lives through the pursuit of mental and physical excellence.
